Erasion
The removal of the title or effigy of a ruler from the coinage issued after his or her death. This process was practiced in imperial Rome, and applied to the coins of Caligula, Nero and Geta, as part of the more general practice of damnatio memoriae (damnation of the memory) ordered by the Senate.
